About
This life that we were given can be so hard. Physical and mental health issues, career struggles, family challenges, loss, loneliness, whatever it may be, these are all struggles and burdens that we carry as we live life. There is not a single one of us who does not struggle with something in our life.
Letters to Our Shepherd was created as a personal challenge and project to pray not just for myself or those in my immediate family and friends, but to also provide people, wherever you are and whoever you are, to feel supported and encouraged to keep hope in whatever you are going through. Although this is a Catholic-Christian owned website, I would love to pray (write letters to Jesus, Our Shepherd) for you regardless of your “religious status” because at the end of the day, we are all human and we all need the kindness, compassion, mercy, grace, blessings and, above all, the LOVE of Christ.
Please visit the FAQ page for procedures on how to request a prayer and my personal policies.
My Story
This concept is not unique. There are plenty of websites that offer prayers for those who request it, (and you could also of course go to your church, priest or pastor and simply request a prayer) but what does it hurt to add another one? This one is owned by an ordinary Catholic person who prays as if she were writing letters to Jesus, our Good Shepherd. The bible I use to read, study, and pray with is the Revised Standard Version – Second Catholic Edition (the same version used for Fr. Mike Schmitz’s “Bible in a Year” podcast).
I pray the rosary almost daily, attend Mass every Sunday, spend time with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration, and just chat with Jesus daily, multiple times a day. Why am I telling you this? Not to boast, because I dare not boast about “being a good Catholic”, I am nowhere near perfect and I am just as flawed as everyone else. However, I know deep in my heart that prayer is the most powerful way to stay connected to God…I mean, even Jesus himself did it all the time! As a way to stay connected with God and to help others become closer to God along the way, I decided to start this website after being inspired by the love, support, and encouragement shown by random strangers on the internet.
Funny enough, the inspiration to create the website came to me while I was listening to Gregorian Chant on Youtube while working. I had a break in my work day and decided to scroll through some of the comments under that video, and there were so many comments from people all over the world asking viewers (regular people, like you and me!) to pray for them and whatever their situation was at that time. When I looked at the replies, I saw so many people praying for the original commenter and I felt the love of Jesus hit me. I had to bow my head and pray right then and there, at my desk, and thank God for all the love He has shown us through His son, Jesus Christ.
No, I am not a theologian, I am not clergy, I am not a religious sister…I am just a regular, everyday person, flaws and all, so all I can offer is a sincere prayer to God through Jesus, for you, your family, and/or your loved ones. I hope that it brings you hope, I hope that it brings you peace, and I hope that it brings you ever closer to Jesus, our Good, Good Shepherd, who loves You unfathomably.
